Our Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tumbling a requirement to be on a Varsity team?
Tumbling is not required, but strongly encouraged. This is a sport and as such,Ā tumbling and stunting is a major category for all competitions.
What kind of training do the coaches have?
All of our coaches are required to be CPR/AED certified, AACCA/USA Cheer Safety certified, as well as NFHS Cheer certified.
How many players are on the team roster?
We typically like to have 18-22 girls on our Varsity team, as many boys as are interested, and between 10-12 girls on our JV team. Varsity is typically grades 9-12 and JV is grades 9-11.
How much does MHS CheerĀ cost?
Typically for returning athletes it is anywhere from $800+ for out of pocket expenses. This covers camp, shoes, and other personal gear. For incoming freshman the cost is closer to $400+ due to they can not tryout until the fall after camp.
Do you hold open practices?
Our practices during the school year are closed and only for current team members and staff. In the summer we do try to have a few open gym days to give Freshman and Transfer students an idea of what to work on.
Do the coaches teach tumbling?
As we are a public school program with little to no funding, tumbling is the responsibility of the athlete to improve outside of team practice. We do warm-up already mastered tumbling but we do not have the resources to do in depth training.
Is prior cheer experience required?
No, it is not a requirement, but it does help with your athletes score at tryouts. We use a points based system for our tryouts, so typically skill is a big factor on how well an athlete can do.
